Every triathlete has a story. Every triathlete has a reason. Every triathlete begins a journey to push their limits. While we never really know exactly where that journey will take us, Tri Beginner’s Luck is here to uncover these stories and share them with you.
This week we interview teammates from the DC Triathlon Club: Anoa Gibson-Hunter, Jules Bilowich, and Mijah Altmann. Being part of a club provides a space where each person can find their own individual strength, as well as the power that comes from the group. These teammates discuss how they have healed from trauma and rediscover what freedom means to them. This group's journey of self-discovery is admirable, and it teaches us the strength of the human spirit and the beauty we can find when together we tri.
DC Triathlon Club offers programs for every level: novice to elite. For more information, visit their website at www.dctriclub.org.

Every triathlete has a story. Every triathlete has a reason. Every triathlete begins a journey to push their limits. While we never really know exactly where that journey will take us, Tri Beginner’s Luck is here to uncover these stories and share them with you.
This week we interview two beginners with incredible stories. Tata Velayo turned the big 4-0 and wanted a new challenge to help her stay competitive and healthy while recovering from knee discomfort while playing frisbee and tennis during the pandemic. Jayden Sampson took his show on the road at 50 years old and completed an 80-day 4300-mile bike ride across the country. As if that wasn’t challenging enough, he traded his trike 3-wheeled bike for a 2-wheeled roadie. And his tri journey begins!
For both athletes, the journey started with a question: “How hard can Triathlons be?” Well, let’s listen and find out!
These stories are what Tri Beginner’s Luck - and the triathlon lifestyle - is all about. We hope that once you listen, you are encouraged, empowered, and ready to tri!

A Tale of Two Sports: Criterium Racing and Triathlons
Wednesday Jun 07, 2023
Wednesday Jun 07, 2023
It’s never too late to tri - or tri again. This week, we talked with Drew Wilson, who initially decided he wasn’t much into triathlon. But, then, 10 years later, he returned to level up his multisport game.
A former collegiate basketball player, Drew Wilson, found himself unwittingly signed up for his first triathlon by a co-worker. Although he completed it, the experience didn’t ignite a strong desire in him to try another triathlon.
However, things turned to the tri-side when Drew started running with local run crews and curating yoga experiences. He met a fellow triathlete who encouraged him to give triathlons another shot during this time. Not only did this reignite Drew’s passion for triathlons, but it also led him to venture into the exciting world of criterium racing.
Tune in to learn about the journey that is endurance sport!

Valerie is an active woman. She is an executive, a yoga instructor, a personal
