We're back! Time flies when you're having fun, and after a short break, we're recharged and ready to dive into a new season of inspiration and connection.
This season, we're going back to basics. Before we Tri'ed, we swam, biked, or ran – maybe you're a seasoned athlete, maybe you just woke up one day and decided to tri, or maybe you're new to the sport and exploring what it means to tri. However you found your way to endurance sports, it all started somewhere. For many, that starting line was running.
And this week, we're thrilled to continue the conversation with a true legend in the endurance world: Ted Metellus. As the first Black race director of a World Marathon Major – the iconic TCS New York City Marathon – He isn't just directing races; he is shaping the future of sport. Ted’s fingerprints are all over the endurance world. With over 25 years of experience, his influence spans the globe—from producing triathlons, road races, and cycling events to personally conquering over 40 half marathons.
In this episode, we explore Ted's incredible journey, from his early days in event production to the profound significance of his historic role. It's a story of hard work, dedication, and a passion for creating memorable and safe experiences – a journey from rising through the ranks to the pinnacle of the sport. We'll uncover the common threads that connect all endurance disciplines, the logistical magic and immense challenges behind staging world-class events, and the vital importance of representation at every level.
This is a conversation you won't want to miss. Plus, Ted shares information about the NYRR Virtual Black History Month 5K – a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Black history and the power of running. Click the link to sign up and join:https://www.nyrr.org/races/virtualnyrrblackhistorymonth5k.
